The Water Management Ecosystem in Selangor: What You Need To Know

Clean and safe water supply is an essential necessity. However, providing a clean, safe, and continuous water supply to consumers is no easy feat. Processes involved, from abstracting water at its source to treating it to become clean and safe to use, and finally, distributing it to the consumers are unknown to many. There has not been enough information and exposure on how water operators provide clean water supply to consumers.

DID YOU KNOW?

As one of Malaysia’s largest water operators, Air Selangor operates, manages and maintains:

  • 34 water treatment plants
  • 5,000 million liters per day of combined capacity
  • 7 dams; Sg. Selangor Dam, Sg. Tinggi Dam, Tasik Subang Dam, Klang Gate Dam, Semenyih Dam, Sg. Langat Dam & Kelau Dam.
  • 3 Off-River Storage (ORS) and 1 Hybrid Off – River Augmented Storage (HORAS) facilities.
  • 29,270 km of pipe network
  • 11 distribution regions; Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Kuala Langat, Sepang, Gombak, Hulu Langat, Hulu Selangor, Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Kuala Lumpur & Putrajaya
  • 2.4 million customer accounts (approximately 8.4 million consumers)

Although Air Selangor is the sole licensee responsible for treatment and distribution of water in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, it does not operate in isolation. The organisation works very closely and often collaborates with various stakeholders to ensure that providing a clean and safe water supply for consumers remains a priority. While each of these stakeholders carries a different role, they are equally important.

Air Selangor supports all efforts taken by SPAN, LUAS, the Ministry of Environment and Water, as well as other relevant authorities to work closely together in ensuring the conservation of raw water source towards creating a sustainable water future for the consumers. When it comes to basic needs such as water, everyone is a consumer and has equal rights to a safe and clean water supply. It is our collective responsibility to do our part to help protect the water source clean and safe for posterity.
