Air Selangor Will Implement Water Supply Tariff Adjustment For Non Domestic and Special Categories In Line With KASA’s Announcement

Kuala Lumpur – Following the announcement made by the Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA) on the implementation of water supply tariff adjustment for non-domestic and special categories through the Tariff Setting Mechanism (TSM) developed by Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara (SPAN), Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) will be working with in hand with the ministry to implement the water supply tariff adjustment beginning 1 August 2022. This is to ensure that consumers involved with the tariff adjustment receive accurate information while ensuring a smooth water supply tariff adjustment implementation process.

As water operators, the water supply tariff adjustment in line with the time and current economic needs is critical in ensuring optimal services and operations that can support overall economic development. However, the water supply tariff adjustment in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya only involves an average increase of 20 cents for each meter cube (m3) of water. The adjustment is only being implemented after 16 years with the last adjustment implemented in 2006 in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya. During this period, Air Selangor has a limited amount of capital expenditure (CAPEX) to maintain and upgrade its assets for the consumers’ well-being.

The water supply tariff adjustment is specifically for non-domestic consumers and special consumers categories. Domestic consumers will not be affected in line with the YAB Prime Minister’s announcement on 24 June 2022. The average increase of 20 cents for each meter cube (m3) of water is a reasonable amount charged by water operators to continue providing safe and clean treated water supply to commercial consumers.

In line with the announcement, Air Selangor will be notifying the non-domestic and special category consumers involved with the water supply tariff adjustment. Air Selangor will also share detailed information on the water supply tariff adjustment from time to time.
