Kuala Lumpur – Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) today published its inaugural 2020 Sustainability Report. With the theme “Towards Sustainable Water Management”, the first sustainability report focuses on Air Selangor’s efforts and strategies in continuing to drive its long-term efficient and sustainable water supply management and administration to over 8.4 million consumers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya.
Air Selangor supports all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by the United Nations (UN). On that front, we are committed towards the achievements of five (5) key goals that directly related to our operations, namely the Clean Water and Sanitation Goal (SDG 6), the Economic Growth Goal and Decent Employment (SDG 8), the Responsible Consumption and Production Goal (SDG 12), the Climate Action Goal (SDG 13) and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions Goal (SDG 16).
For the first time in 2020, Air Selangor has issued the Sukuk Muharabah comprising of Islamic Medium Term Financial Notes (IMTN) and Islamic Commercial Paper (ICP) with a value of RM10 billion. Through this initiative, Air Selangor has issued IMTN and ICP worth RM1.15 billion, marking a significant milestone in our efforts to improve and upgrade the infrastructure of the water supply system infrastructure.
Through the Sukuk Murabahah programme, Air Selangor will be able to issue the SRI Sukuk Kelestarian Air Selangor (Sukuk Kelestarian) in the near future to finance and implement sustainable investment projects. This is in line with our capital investment programmes, sustainability strategies, and key Sustainable Development Goals.
Meanwhile, Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara (SPAN) has approved a capital expenditure (CAPEX) of RM5.09 billion for the first operating period based on Air Selangor’s 30:35 Business Plan in November 2020 for the implementation of sustainable water supply management strategic plans and initiatives. Air Selangor has also managed to record various achievements through the multiple sustainability initiatives in 2020 which in turn has resulted in a positive impact on the economy, environment, and society. Among these achievements include:
- Reduction in the average annual rate of Non-Revenue Water (NRW) from 29.7% in 2019 to 28.53% in 2020, which exceeds the target of 29.2% set by SPAN.
- Handover of the Kelau Dam management in Pahang through the Pahang-Selangor Raw Water Distribution Project with a water storage capacity of 147.10 million cubic meters which benefits the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant.
- 100 percent compliance with the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) Quality Assurance Programme (QAP) without any incident of E.Coli violation and no simultaneous incident violation of E. Coli and Free Residual Chlorine (FRC).
- Implementation of the 2020 Customer Satisfaction Index Survey to identify consumer expectations and ultimately improve the customer service quality.
- Implementation of various grassroots initiatives through Air Selangor Sesama Mara Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme.
- Improvement of revenue to RM2.18 billion, an increase of 3.62% compared to RM2.10 billion in 2019.
Through Air Selangor’s 2020-2022 Sustainability Strategy, Air Selangor has also provided support to the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations (UN) by focusing on enhancing the resilience of water supply services while also ensuring continuous water supply to consumers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
