Environment

Air Selangor’s total of 34 Water Treatment Plants (WTPs), 7 dams and 2 off-river storage system (ORS) produce an average of about 4,900 million litres of water per day to 8.3 million residents and various businesses in our service area. The current average water demand is projected to increase to 7,800 MLD by 2034 and we are committed to ensure a sustainable supply of water to our customers.

Where does our water come from?

The raw water sourced by Air Selangor for treatment and distribution in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya mainly comes from the Sg. Selangor and Sg. Langat river basins. There are five classes of rivers in Malaysia, and only rivers categorised in Class I to Class III are permitted to be sourced for potable drinking water, which is strictly adhered to by Air Selangor.

Due to the large population residing in this area and increasing urbanisation, it is important that the water resources in the state are managed effectively to ensure continuous availability of clean water.

Water quality at Air Selangor

Our treated water is compliant with the Drinking Water Quality Standards, published by the Ministry of Health (MOH). Air Selangor regularly monitors the quality of raw and treated water at various sampling points, through our in-house laboratories which have been accredited with ISO 17025 (Laboratory Accreditation) Certification.

Reducing Non-Revenue Water (NRW)

Air Selangor is also constantly working hard to reduce non-revenue water (NRW) by replacing aged or damaged pipes, identifying and repairing leaks through our leak finder programme, replacing aging meters, as well as strengthening our security patrols and enforcement to curb water theft and vandalism. If you identify any pipe leak or burst, or witness any suspicious activity that may suggest water theft through illegal connections, please contact the Air Selangor customer service at 15300, or make an immediate or compliant report using the Air Selangor web, or simply fill in your details here.

Water Conservation at Air Selangor

Air Selangor is constantly working around the clock to increasing current water supply and the Selangor state government is also working together with the Pahang state government on the Selangor-Pahang raw water transfer project. The project involves construction of three tunnels measuring 44.6km-long aimed at supplying raw water from Sg. Semantan to the states of Pahang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan.

However, water conservation is an environment-friendly and cost-efficient way to address the issue of water scarcity. Air Selangor has initiated several educational programmes for the public to emphasise the importance of water conservation due to persistent challenges such as increasing population and urbanisation, river water pollution, climate change and the high cost of water treatment.
